چکیده

Complex Event Processing (CEP) has emerged as the unifying field for technologies that require processing and correlating heterogeneous distributed data sources in real-time. CEP finds applications in diverse domains, which has resulted in a large number of proposals for expressing and processing complex events. However, existing CEP frameworks are based on ad-hoc solutions that do not rely on solid theoretical ground, making them hard to understand, extend or generalize. Moreover, they are usually presented as application programming interfaces documented by examples, and using each of them requires learning a different

Towards Formal Foundations of Event Queries and Rules

The field of complex event processing still lacks formal foundations. In particular, event queries require both declarative and operational semantics. We put forward for discussion a proposal towards formal foundations of event queries that aims at making well-known results from database queries applicable to event queries. Declarative semantics of event queries and rules are given as a model t...

Is retaining the youthful functional anatomy underlying speed of information processing a signature of successful cognitive ageing? An event-related fMRI study of inspection time performance

It has been hypothesized that individual differences in cognitive ageing might in part be based on the relative preservation of speed of information processing. However, the biological foundations of processing speed are not understood. Here we compared two groups of non-demented older people who had relatively similar IQs at age 11 but differed markedly in non-verbal reasoning ability at age 7...

Experimental Correlation Analysis: Foundations and Practice ∗

Commonalities and differences in correlation analysis in terms of phase space, conditioning and uncorrelatedness are discussed. The Poisson process is not generally appropriate as reference distribution for normalisation and cumulants, so that generalised statistics in terms of arbitrarily defined reference processes must be employed. Consideration of the sampling hierarchy leads us to a classi...

Event-Related Potentials of Bottom-Up and Top-Down Processing of Emotional Faces

Introduction: Emotional stimulus is processed automatically in a bottom-up way or can be processed voluntarily in a top-down way. Imaging studies have indicated that bottom-up and top-down processing are mediated through different neural systems. However, temporal differentiation of top-down versus bottom-up processing of facial emotional expressions has remained to be clarified. The present st...

LARS: A Logic-Based Framework for Analyzing Reasoning over Streams

The recent rise of smart applications has drawn interest to logical reasoning over data streams. Different query languages and stream processing/reasoning engines were proposed. However, due to a lack of theoretical foundations, the expressivity and semantics of these diverse approaches were only informally discussed. Towards clear specifications and means for analytic study, a formal framework...
